About this tour
The El Silencio Trail is the best way to get up close to Arenal Volcano. This 4 km (2.5 mi) guided hike starts in primary rainforest filled with giant trees and abundant wildlife, then opens out onto ancient volcanic lava flows from the historic 1968 eruption that completely transformed life in the region. Your bilingual naturalist guide will share the story of the volcano's geological formation, its different stages of activity, and details of the 1968 disaster. The trail ends with stunning views of a green lagoon and Lake Arenal, and a tropical fruit tasting.
