The route follows the Pacific coast south via the Costanera Sur highway, passing through Jaco, Quepos, and Dominical before reaching Uvita on the South Pacific coast. Total travel time is 3.5 to 4 hours. The drive covers a scenic stretch of coastline backed by the coastal mountain range.
Paved Costanera Sur highway. Some mountain sections but well-maintained throughout.
Visit between July-October or December-April for the best chance to see humpback whales migrating past Uvita.
Approximately 4 hours with one stop along the way. The first portion is highway; the second half follows the Pacific coast. Child seats are included at no charge. Vehicles are equipped with A/C, WiFi, and charging ports.

Google says 3.5 hours but count on 4 to 4.5. The highway to the coast is fast, but after Quepos the road to Uvita and Dominical can slow down with trucks and the mountain pass at Cerro de la Muerte if you take the inland route. Via the coast (our preferred route) is easier but has some construction zones.
The drive to Uvita takes approximately 3.5 to 4 hours. The coastal highway (Costanera Sur) is quiet at night with minimal traffic. Standard pricing applies for all departure times.
Leave early and take the coastal route β it's longer but way more scenic. You pass through Jaco and Manuel Antonio on the way. If you have time, stop at Nauyaca Waterfalls near Dominical β one of the best waterfalls in the country. Uvita is chill and uncrowded, you made a great choice.
